Kawartha Lakes Mums - Are You Lacing Up for MS? 

Sunday May 5,2013 people affected by MS will be lacing up across Canada for loved ones with MS. Will you be lacing up?

MS  - Did You Know These 10 Facts? 

  1. Canadians have one of the highest rates of multiple sclerosis in the world. 
  2. MS is the most common neurological disease affecting young adults in Canada. 
  3. Every day, three more people in Canada are diagnosed with MS. 
  4. Women are more than three times as likely to develop MS as men. 
  5. MS can cause loss of balance, impaired speech, extreme fatigue, double vision and paralysis.
  6. 10% of persons with MS experience episodes of uncontrollable laughing and/or crying that are unpredictable and seem to have little or no relationship to actual events or the individual’s actual feelings.
  7. MS was first identified and described by a French neurologist, Dr. Jean-Martin Charcot, in 1868.
  8. Since MS Society founding in 1948, the core support of the MS Society has been from tens of thousands of dedicated individuals, companies and foundations in communities across Canada.
  9. The Society receives almost no funding from government. 
  10. MS Society of Canada is lobbying The Government of Canada to create a more flexible and supportive employment insurance sickness benefits program for people with episodic illnesses
